District Rider Education

We have been working hard to get the Medic First Aid (MFA), PLP Facilitators and Seminar Presenters Programs up and running for Rider Education in the Georgia District.  With the help of some very willing volunteers, we are well on the way.

CONGRATULATIONS to Rich Morgan of Chapter H (Albany), who was certified as a MFA Trainer at Wing Ding 2009, in Tulsa, OK.  Rich is the first member in the Georgia District to receive this certification. With this certification, Rich will be able to train certified MFA instructors.  We appreciate the time, effort and dedication Rich put forth to achieve this goal.

GWRRA Rider Education has traditionally encouraged members to obtain and maintain certifications in First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). These basic skills are easily learned and may make the difference between life and death in the critical minutes before professional help can arrive. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

We have five certified MFA Instructors within our District (Bill Livingston, Rich Morgan, Lorraine Burt, Tommy Martin and Vicky Martin) and since Rich has been certified as a MFA Trainer, he will be acting as the MFA Coordinator for the Georgia District. GWRRA is a recognized corporate provider of the Medic First Aid Program.  With the help of our certified instructors, we will do our best to meet the CPR and First Aid Training needs of our fellow members.

The PLP Facilitator is coming along well. Chapters GA-D and GA-L have hosted a Sanctioned PLP during the second quarter this year, where the use of Facilitators was required. The feedback has been very good and positive in nature. During the times surrounding these two events there has been a significant number of new level I, II and III applications. The participants at both of these events stated that the PLP was fun and very helpful to sharpen their riding skills. Riding slow in a parking lot may not seem like it would help much; however, it is the slow ride and turns that usually give riders the most trouble.

There was a small group of members that recently attended the SPDP (Seminar Presenters Development Program) in preparation to become Seminar Presenters. This will offer us more resources to work with and enable us to better serve the members in our District. There is some valuable information shared in the presentation of these seminars. Available seminars include Co-Rider, Road Captain, Team Riding, Motorcycle Crash Scene Response and more.

These programs are designed for you, the member, to help you prepare yourself through education and skills practice for a safe riding future. Vicky and I, as your District Educators, want to encourage the Chapter Educators and members alike to take advantage of these programs. If a chapter would like to plan a PLP, Seminar, or MFA Course, have your Chapter Educator contact us. Programs are open to all members (class size limits may apply) and will be posted on the District website when scheduled. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to participate. We are here to serve you!

Ride Safely,
Tommy & Vicky Martin
