This MAY be of Interest to Some of You Out There . . . .
The Trike Parking Lot Practice program is now “up and running”. WHAT? HOW? Well, let me explain.
National Rider Education has appointed me as the Georgia Trike Facilitator, and with that comes the approval to conduct Trike PLP’s. I have just completed my “trial by fire”, so to speak, by conducting my first Trike PLP this past month. It was fun, it was exciting and it was a learning experience. Fortunately, there is not all that much difference between a 2 wheel and a 3 wheel PLP and I want to thank my “guinea pigs“, oops, I mean the Chapter members of the “trial” Chapter for assisting me in laying out the PLP exercises and working with me in completing the first Trike PLP. Listening to them and watching them, I think it was an exciting and fun time for them also. (Even if it was cool, overcast, windy and starting to rain just as we finished).
This leads us to “what’s next?” Well, I will conduct Trike PLP’s on the same basis as the 2 wheel PLP’s have been conducted in the past, “First Come, First Served”. The same criteria will be followed as with the 2 wheel PLP. Activity Request sent to the District Educator, Release Forms must be signed, all must be current GWRRA members, parking lot of approximately 100’ x 200’, clear of obstructions, etc. and, yes, best of all, completing the exercises will allow you to advance and/or up date your qualifications at your current level in the Rider Ed Level program. This should really assist all the Georgia Trikers to get back into and updated in the Rider Ed program. Completion of this course will NOT enable you to get your Drivers License endorsement.
Sometime in the near future, I will be able to train 3-4 more
people to assist in conducting the Trike PLP’s. At this point in time, the
guidelines for this are still not available, but should be soon. As you all
know, I am a 2 wheeler, so, after the first of the year, I will be going to
Florida to work with the Region A Educator on Trike riding. When he is finished
with me, I may not be a MSF Trike Instructor, but, knowing the Region A
Educator, I will sure have a whole lot better
feel for, and understanding of, Trike riding.
So, there you have it. This has been a long time in coming and I know that all you Trikers out there have been waiting for this to happen. I will do my very best in accommodating your requests to hold a PLP, but please, do not be upset if you don’t get your first choice of dates. I expect (I hope) there to be a lot of interest in Trike PLP’s early on, and everyone will be trying to get their Chapter scheduled. Talk with your Chapter and have an alternative date, if your first choice is not available. And, as an available extra attraction, Co-Rider Seminars will be available for the Co-Riders, if your Chapter wishes. This is going to be an interesting and fun time for all concerned, let’s enjoy it!
And, as always, always be watchful for the unwatchful . . . .
